The body of a missing hiker was found by park rangers at Mills Glacier near Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. Lucas Macaj, 23, was reported missing on Sunday (May 12) after he never returned from his hike.

Officials said he texted a friend around 1 p.m. to say that he had reached the 14,259-foot summit of Longs Peak but wasn't heard from again.

There were storms in the area on Sunday, which brought dangerous conditions to the higher elevations. His car was still in the parking lot on Monday when several search teams were dispatched to try to locate him.

On Thursday night, park officials announced that his body was found on Mills Glacier along the eastern face of Longs Peak. Park rangers said it looked like he suffered a significant fall. His body was airlifted off the mountain by a helicopter and transferred to the Boulder County Coroner's Office, which will conduct an autopsy to determine how the 23-year-old died.
